Basic first aid provision and support for proper health care that many of us take for granted can be hard for others to access. We ensure that LGBTI in Kakuma Refugee camp have access to the private health practitioners they need, whom will understand them better, treat them with dignity and respect and won't discriminate them.
Community is the family that goes beyond family. It is the people and places that we come in contact with each and every day. When we strengthen communities, we strengthen individuals.
After fact that human rights violation among the vulnerable LGBTIQA+ in the camp, there is a daily big need to defend and protect humanity. Human rights defenders in the camp and those in exile have daily roles of:-
1). Understanding the current immediate violations taking place in the camp and reacting accordingly to solve the injustice and or violation like denial of medical assistance, police services, incase of detentions, shortage of water at water point, etc.
2). Lobbying organisations, individuals, institutions, politicians, gorvernment agencies, international, regional, local NGOs and activists to understand well the lgbtiq refugee crisis in East Africa and how best they can engage.
3). Doing daily awareness. They create awareness in all possible ways they can as they believe that its one of the ways the freedom of all lgbtiq refugees and asylum seekers in Kenya and East Africa will be ensured,
Ensuring healthy and happy queer communities, voluteers provide group counsellig to particularly those who are having serious mental illnesses. Folks dealing with suicidal ideations, folks with HIV/aids and survivours of homophobic experiences. They offer daily assistance by talking to them, encourage them, make them understand they are not alone,
Through the day, several sports activities are promoted, mostly in door activities like playing cards, droughts, chess, luddo, darts, etc. This is all to limit uncomfortability, depression, anxienty, among the LGBTQIA+ due to the fact that they are subjected to a lot. All this is done by voluteers to organise, regulate and promote them,
Child care is critical and relevant for all children in camp everyday. From reading story books, singing rymes, drawing, to playing. Voluteers do these activities on a daily basis to help children heal from trauma and stigma they encounter in the camp. Voluteers beleive that no child needs to face difficulties when they look for their freedom and rights. Children are called names, denied freedom like playing and free movement, rights like education all because of their parents are lgbtiq+.
